Sports Club Villa have confirmed the departure of head coach Morley Byekwaso after the two parties agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent. The decision takes effect from June 18, 2025.
The club made the announcement on Thursday, citing constructive discussions between management and the coach that led to the conclusion that a parting of ways was in the club’s best interest going forward.
Byekwaso has been part of the Villa technical setup for over two years, serving in various capacities.
Notably, he was the assistant manager when the club lifted the StarTimes Uganda Premier League trophy for the 2023/24 season.
Club President Omar Ahmed Mandela thanked Byekwaso for his service, saying, “We would like to thank Morley for his commitment and contribution to the club. This was a mutual decision, reached respectfully, and we wish him nothing but the very best in his future coaching endeavours. He has done us proud.”
Villa is now in the process of identifying a new head coach to build on the foundations laid during Byekwaso’s time at Villa Park.
The club says the recruitment process begins immediately, with further updates on the technical team expected soon.
In the meantime, Byekwaso will be part of the coaching panel alongside Vipers’ Fred Muhumuza that will lead Uganda at CHAN 2024 which happens in August.
