Kitagwenda Storms Into Netball Semis as Burahya Kicks Off Football Title Defense with Grit

Kitagwenda County stormed into the semifinals of the netball competition while defending football champions Burahya Isaza edged past Ntoroko in a tense 2-1 encounter during Sunday’s MTN Kabode Tooro Kingdom Amasaza Tournament matches at Kyembogo DATIC Play Ground.

In Netball, Kitagwenda put on a masterclass in both attack and defense, comfortably winning two matches to book their spot in the last four. They opened with a resounding 66-12 rout of Burahya before dominating Ntoroko 62-18 in their second game of the day.

Burahya’s netball side, meanwhile, faced a rough outing. After their heavy loss to Kitagwenda, they narrowly fell 26-23 to Ntoroko in a spirited but ultimately fruitless effort.

Still, Burahya captain Gladys Businge remained optimistic.
“Things didn’t go as planned, but that’s sports—there’s always a win, a draw, or a loss. You just have to accept the outcome,” she said. “Hope is not lost; we shall keep on pressing.”

Kitagwenda joins Kyaka in the semifinals, setting up a promising clash between two in-form sides.

Meanwhile, Burahya’s football team kicked off their title defense with a gritty 2-1 win over Ntoroko. Solomon Kaija opened the scoring in the first half and was later named Man of the Match. Ronald Nyanya added a second before Ntoroko pulled one back in the second half.

Despite late pressure, Burahya held firm.

“We are well prepared for this year’s tournament,” said Kaija. “We want to defend our title—it will not be easy, but we shall try our best.”

Burahya technical team member Christopher Adebayo applauded the team’s discipline and fight.
“Ntoroko County is good, but we played well and emerged winners,” he said.

The win gives Burahya a strong start in Group B, but with the group still wide open, they’ll need consistency to stay on top.

Tooro Kingdom Premier Owek. Calvin Rwomiire reminded participants and fans that the tournament is about more than just sport.
“This is more than just competition,” he said. “It’s about bringing our people together and ensuring no one is left behind in the fight against AIDS.”

All eyes now turn to Katoosa PlayGround on Sunday, June 22, as reigning netball champions Mwenge South clash with Bunyangabu in what promises to be another blockbuster showdown.
