Calvary are the 2024/25 FUFA Big League Champions

Calvary Football Club have won the 2024/25 FUFA Big League after edging Paidha Black Angels 1-0 in a tense West Nile derby played at the Midigo Primary School playground on Saturday.

The win sealed a historic promotion for the Yumbe-based side and saw them finish top of the 15-team table with 52 points, two clear of Gaddafi and Buhimba United Saints.

The title will officially be handed to Calvary tomorrow, Sunday, June 22.

Calvary’s Steven Oriokot struck the decisive goal in the 70th minute, sparking celebrations across Yumbe and West Nile.

With the title race wide open heading into the final day, Calvary knew only victory would guarantee top spot, and they delivered when it mattered most.

Despite pressure from Paidha, who were also in the hunt for promotion, Calvary held their nerve and defended resolutely to keep their slender lead intact.

It has been a landmark season for Calvary, who head to top-flight football with a spirited campaign defined by consistency, resilience, and crucial wins in big moments.

Their triumph also marks a sweet comeback after narrowly missing out on promotion in previous years.

Coming into the final round, Calvary were tied on 49 points with Buhimba United but had a superior head-to-head record thanks to the away goal they scored in Kigaaya.

That advantage ultimately mattered little as they secured the full three points on the final day, although Buhimba faltered, registering a goalless draw against Kiyinda Boys.
