Uganda Cranes have officially kicked off non-residential training ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), with the first session held on Monday morning at the Prisons Grounds in Luzira.
This marks the beginning of Uganda’s journey toward the tournament they will co-host alongside Tanzania and Kenya from August 2 to 30, 2025.
The training commenced at 9 am, under the guidance of coaches Morley Byekwaso and Fred Muhumuza.
Shortly before the residential camp, the team welcomed a key change to its provisional 41-man squad, with seasoned midfielder Paul Mucureezi drafted in to replace youngster James Bogere.
FUFA confirmed that Bogere’s request to withdraw from the camp had been accepted, paving the way for Mucureezi to return to national duty.
The tournament, exclusively reserved for players in domestic leagues, presents a critical opportunity for Uganda, who will be aiming to progress beyond the group stages for the first time in seven attempts.
Uganda is pitted in Group C alongside Niger, Guinea, South Africa, and Algeria.
All Group C matches will be hosted at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, which will also stage the third-place playoff.
Tanzania will host the tournament opener on August 2 in Dar es Salaam, while the final is slated for August 30 in Nairobi, Kenya.
