MTN Uganda closed out the June edition of its signature golf event, the MTN Quarterly Tee, with a powerful message of unity and support for Uganda’s top professional golfer, Ronald Rugumayo.
Held at Entebbe Golf Club on Saturday 21st June, the event carried the theme Friends of Mayo, turning the spotlight on the country’s lone DP World Tour representative.
In a lively and tropical-themed gathering, golfers, fans, and corporate partners came together to celebrate sport, community, and national pride.
The event also featured MTN’s ongoing fundraising campaign through MoMoPay code 719110, which gives Ugandans a chance to directly contribute to Rugumayo’s global golf journey.
Representing MTN Uganda’s CEO, General Manager for Business Intelligence Kenneth Kiddu underscored the company’s commitment to supporting local talent:
“When we rally behind our own, amazing things happen. Rugumayo’s story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when talent meets support. That’s why we are proud to stand with him—not just as a sponsor, but as believers in what he represents. Together we are unstoppable,” he said.
Golfers who donated UGX 100,000 and above between June 14th and 21st were entered into a raffle to win a Samsung S25 smartphone, which was awarded during the 19th Hole celebration. The event also included MoMoPay activations, spin-and-win challenges, and vibrant social networking.
Rugumayo, clearly moved by the turnout and generosity, delivered an emotional thank-you:
“Golf is not just a game—it’s my calling. Your belief reminds me that I am not walking alone. With this kind of support, I know we can take Uganda to even greater heights on the international stage,” he said.
Proceeds from the campaign will support Rugumayo as he competes in three major tournaments in July: the Fred Olsen Alps de La Gomera (3rd–5th), the Alps de Las Castillas (9th–11th), and the Pearl of Africa Golf Series in Lugazi (16th–19th). Each offers a major opportunity for Uganda to shine on the international golfing map.
The Friends of Mayo campaign remains open, and MTN is encouraging all Ugandans to get involved by donating through MoMoPay Code 719110.
Alongside the cause-driven celebration, the tournament recognized the best performers on the course:
