Manchester City’s young defender, Rico Lewis, has been handed an additional two-match ban for his red card against Wydad Casablanca in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The FIFA disciplinary committee ruled the tackle as “serious foul play,” extending his initial one-match suspension.
The 20-year-old was dismissed in the 88th minute of City’s 2-0 win on Wednesday for catching an opponent in the face.
This means Lewis, who already missed Monday’s 6-0 victory over Al Ain, will now also sit out Thursday’s game against Juventus and their subsequent last-16 tie.
Despite an unsuccessful appeal from City, Pep Guardiola’s side has already secured their place in the knockout stages of the tournament.
