World Athletics has officially opened the bidding process for the 2029 and 2031 World Athletics Championships.
This marks the start of the race for cities globally to host one of the most prestigious international sporting events.
Interested member federations and host stakeholders should consult the bid guide and submit a pre-qualification form by October 1, 2025. Both documents are available in the World Athletics Library.
The World Athletics Championships is the year’s premier athletics event, gathering top athletes to compete for their nations.
As part of the process, World Athletics invites potential hosts to an observer programme at the upcoming World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25 this September.
This program offers a unique behind-the-scenes look and knowledge exchange. For more information, contact Mark Hurst, Head of Bidding at World Athletics.
Following Tokyo 25, the next World Athletics Championships will be held in Beijing in 2027.
