Ugandan footballer Shafiq Kajimu has urged stakeholders to invest more in football infrastructure and grassroots development, warning that the country’s long-term success depends on how well it nurtures young talent.
In an exclusive interview with NBS Sport, Kajimu stressed the importance of unity within the football fraternity, especially among coaches.
“We need to support the young talents through the coaching staff and teach them leadership,” he said. “Investing more in facilities such as stadiums and equipment is key.”
The midfielder also emphasized discipline as a non-negotiable trait for success, saying raw talent alone cannot carry a player far without focus and consistency.
“Discipline is a key pillar in any player’s career,” Kajimu noted.
Now based in Macedonia, the former URA player says his transition to European football is going smoothly.
“Macedonia is treating me well, and I’m adjusting more in football by keeping and maintaining consistency,” he said.
Kajimu’s remarks come as Uganda gears up for the upcoming CHAN 2024 tournament, with national attention turning to how best to prepare and support the next generation of stars.
His message adds to the growing chorus of voices calling for structural reforms and long-term planning in Ugandan football.
