Lyon have been included in the 2025-26 Ligue 1 fixtures, set to open against Lens, despite their provisional demotion to the second tier due to financial instability.
The DNCG, French football’s financial watchdog, provisionally relegated Lyon in November, a decision upheld this week despite efforts by owner John Textor to present an improved financial picture.
Textor’s Eagle Football Group, holding a 77% stake in Lyon, reported £422 million in debts last October. Lyon has appealed the “incomprehensible” decision.
While Lyon finished sixth in Ligue 1 and qualified for the Europa League, their relegation could impact FA Cup winners Crystal Palace.
Both clubs share Textor as an owner, raising concerns under UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules for European competitions.
Textor recently agreed to sell his 43% share in Palace. UEFA met to discuss the matter, with a decision expected early next week.
