A team of 25 Ugandan university athletes is preparing to fly the national flag at the FISU World University Games, set for July 21st to 27th in Bochum, Germany.
The athletes were selected after competing in a series of intense regional championships held across Northern, Eastern, Central, and Western Uganda between June 14th and 29th.
These events not only served as qualifiers but also offered vital preparation ahead of the global competition.
Participants used the races to push their limits, improve their performance, and build the mental toughness needed for international-level sport.
One of the standout athletes is Mbwali Bridget, a 100m sprinter from Uganda Christian University. Speaking after the regional meets, she credited the championships with helping her sharpen her skills and boost her confidence.
“These regional championships have helped me prepare both physically and mentally. I have improved my time, and now my focus is to go and make history as the first Ugandan sprinter to win a gold medal for my country,” she said.
