Fort Portal Isaaza kicked off their MTN Kabode Tooro Kingdom Amasaza Cup campaign in commanding fashion, sweeping past Kibale 3-0 in front of a buzzing crowd at Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge on Sunday, June 23.
It was all Fort Portal from the start. Francis Alituha broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, before Patrick Pato Musinguzi followed up with a second just six minutes later.
The visitors went into the break with a deserved two-goal cushion and returned just as sharp.
Ivan Businge sealed the win in the 68th minute with a confident finish that not only wrapped up the points but also pushed Kibale out of the tournament entirely. The dominant display sent a clear message—Fort Portal are here to win.
“We played a very good game and we deserved a win,” said Fort Portal coach Vanda Apuuli. “We dominated the first half and created many opportunities which resulted in two goals.”
Goalscorer Businge added, “We have always played well, but a few mistakes have cost us. This time we are ready to win the trophy. Kibale rarely lose at home, but we played a very good game.”
On the losing end, Kibale defender Julius Kanyesigye acknowledged the one-sided affair: “Fort Portal played a very good game and dominated the match. We’re now focusing on the next tournament.”
The match also drew praise from officials and fans alike. Fort Portal team official Steven Mwesige hailed the support from cultural, political, and religious leaders, calling it a key factor in the team’s unity and drive.
Tooro Kingdom Sports Minister Michael Wandera applauded the turnout and the talent on display.
“This tournament has been peaceful and entertaining. The public has come out in large numbers, and we’ve identified several talented youths. We’re now working on linking them to professional clubs,” said Wandera.
