Lewis Hamilton lauded his Ferrari team’s “mega progress” at the Austrian Grand Prix Sunday, finishing fourth behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The strong performance saw Ferrari notably overtake Mercedes for second in the constructors’ standings.
Hamilton credited recent “massive” upgrades for the improved performance, noting the shrinking gap to McLaren.
“We’re not a minute down on McLaren, and that’s positive,” he stated, adding that the team’s calm and methodical approach had led to significant improvements, including identifying a brake issue.
Leclerc echoed Hamilton’s positive outlook, acknowledging the upgrades helped “close the gap” to McLaren, despite a “significant” difference remaining.
Meanwhile, Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto scored his first F1 points in seventh, much to the delight of his manager, two-time champion Fernando Alonso, who finished eighth.
