For the first time in 12 years, Masaza Cup football made a triumphant return to Nakivubo’s Hamz Stadium — and the fans responded in full force.
Kyadondo defeated Bulemeezi 1-0 in a tightly contested match that drew a massive crowd, marking a powerful comeback for the historic venue.
The refurbished stadium, now Kyadondo’s official home ground, hadn’t hosted a Masaza Cup fixture since the early 2010s.
Saturday’s electric atmosphere offered a clear signal that the tournament still holds a deep emotional pull for fans, even as some top-tier Uganda Premier League (UPL) teams continue to struggle with attendance.
While Express and URA have yet to fill the stands since moving to Nakivubo, Kyadondo’s spirited home debut served as a reminder of the Masaza Cup’s unmatched grassroots following.
Stadium owner Hamis Kiggundu, visibly moved by the turnout, celebrated the moment online, writing:
“FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY…. Masaza Cup: Kyadondo vs Bulemeezi….. Alhamudulillah.”
The win not only gave Kyadondo three crucial points but also kicked off a new era of football at Nakivubo.
