NBL 25: Rockets Hand Blazers Consecutive Defeat

What initially seemed like a minor setback for the Namuwongo Blazers has now turned into a worrying trend.

After a narrow 62-61 loss to UCU Canons on Friday, the Blazers were expected to bounce back swiftly, especially given their impressive first-round form.

Before that defeat, the Blazers were riding high on a 16-game winning streak—the best record in the NBL men’s division this season.

However, the losing streak has now stretched to two games, following a 65-60 loss to the Kampala Rockets at the MTN Arena, Lugogo, on Sunday.

The Rockets stormed out of the gates with intent, taking a 15-22 lead in the first quarter and extending their dominance to 42-27 by halftime, a margin that proved critical despite a spirited second-half push by the Blazers.

Nam Blazers edged the third and fourth quarters 15-8 and 18-15, respectively, but the damage from the first half was too much to overturn.

Rockets’ point guard Brian Opiyo led all scorers with 22 points, while Innocent Ochera topped the charts for the Blazers with 13 points.

The result saw Kampala Rockets climb to fourth place on the log with 29 points, while the Blazers remain top with 34 points, both teams having played 18 games.
