Mbale Heroes Chairman, Counsel Andrew Wambi, has stepped down from his role, weeks after the club was relegated from the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
Wambi confirmed his resignation in an exclusive interview with NBS Sport, citing personal and professional pressures.
“I have a lot on my plate right now, both professionally and personally. It’s been a tough decision, but I feel it’s the right time to step aside and allow someone else to take the club forward,” he said.
His exit marks the end of a turbulent season for the Eastern-based club, who will now return to the FUFA Big League after just one campaign in the top flight.
Wambi expressed gratitude to fans, players, and stakeholders for their support throughout his time as chairman.
“Mbale Heroes is a special club with passionate fans. I am grateful for the opportunity I was given to serve. I wish the club the very best as they prepare for the next chapter,” he added.
Mbale Heroes’ return to the Premier League was met with excitement, but it quickly turned into frustration.
The team struggled to cope with the demands of top-flight football, suffering from poor form, unstable leadership, and inconsistent performances that ultimately cost them their status.
Sources close to the club say discussions are already underway to restructure the leadership and chart a path forward.
“It’s a painful moment for everyone involved with the club. But we have to pick ourselves up, reorganize, and fight to bring Mbale Heroes back where it belongs,” said a club insider who preferred to remain unnamed.
With Wambi’s departure, the club now faces a crucial leadership vacuum at a time when it needs direction more than ever.
The next few weeks are expected to be pivotal in determining who takes over and how the team prepares for a challenging FUFA Big League campaign.
