The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) golf team returned home after representing the country at the 16th International Military Sports Council (CISM) Golf Championships in Diani, Kenya.
Held at the scenic Diamond Leisure Beach and Golf Resort, the week-long tournament ran from June 22, 2025, and drew military golfers from 19 nations. The event featured stiff competition, high-level skill, and opportunities for global camaraderie.
Uganda fielded a seven-member team, whose impressive performance earned widespread recognition.
The standout moment came from Lt Col Evelyn Asiimwe, who clinched a silver medal in the Senior Women’s category. Her performance marked a major milestone for both the UPDF and Uganda on the international military sports scene.
Brig Gen Richard Karemire, who led the delegation in his capacity as Joint Staff Formal Education, Sports and Culture, highlighted the value of sports in international engagement.
“The convergence of delegations from across the world affirms our belief in sports as a bridge for dialogue, building trust, and fostering international partnerships,” he said.
The championship was officially opened by Kenya’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Charles Kahariri. He praised the role of such events in strengthening military professionalism and shared values across borders.
The UPDF continues to embrace sports as part of its broader commitment to unity, diplomacy, and national pride.
