The Uganda national beach soccer team, the Sand Cranes, has resumed its residential training camp at Bamboo Gardens in Kasanje, Wakiso, ahead of the inaugural CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship scheduled for July 7 to 12 in Mombasa, Kenya.
The team checked back into camp today and kicked things off with a light evening training session at the Bamboo Gardens Beach Soccer Arena, signaling a return to full preparations after a brief pause caused by the tournament’s rescheduling.
Originally slated for early June, the CECAFA tournament was pushed back by a month due to logistical and operational issues, prompting the Sand Cranes to temporarily halt their training programme.
Now back in action, the players and technical staff are expected to gradually ramp up intensity over the coming days as they work toward peak condition in time for the competition.
The Mombasa showdown will be the first-ever CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship and will feature teams from across the East and Central African region, including hosts Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Burundi, and guest sides Malawi and Seychelles.
This return to camp comes as a timely boost for the Sand Cranes, who remain hopeful of making a strong impression at the continental beach soccer debut under the CECAFA banner.
