Club World Cup Teams Pause to Honour Diogo Jota with Silent Tribute

Some of Europe’s biggest clubs have paid tribute to Diogo Jota with moments of silence held before training and matches at the Club World Cup in the United States.

Players from Chelsea, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all stood in solemn reflection to honour the Liverpool and Portugal forward, who died earlier this week in a car accident aged just 28.

The tributes brought together past club teammates, international colleagues, and rivals united by shock and grief.

Among them were familiar faces who had shared the pitch with Jota either at Liverpool or with Portugal.

PSG’s tribute stood out in particular, with the French champions fielding four Portuguese players in their current squad.

Photos shared from the sessions showed players gathered in huddles or lined up side by side, many bowing their heads in silence as part of a moment that cut across club rivalries.

Jota’s death has sent ripples far beyond Liverpool. Known for his quiet drive, selfless team play and sharp eye for goal, he was respected not just for his football, but for the person he was off the pitch.
