The Uganda Cranes are entering a pivotal phase in their preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), with tactical training sessions set to begin next week.
After nearly two weeks of non-residential high-intensity training, assistant coach Fred Muhumuza says the focus is now turning to modern game tactics as the team gears up for its latest push to finally break past the CHAN group stage.
Despite the players returning from a brief off-season break, Muhumuza praised their energy, sharpness, and mindset.
“The boys had been off football for about two to three weeks since the end of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and the Stanbic Uganda Cup, but they are in good shape, with a positive mindset and steady progress. We are set to begin tactical sessions next week to bring them fully back into competitive mode,” Muhumuza said.
Beyond the physical conditioning, there’s a clear sense of purpose in the squad.
The players have shown hunger and belief, with intense competition for final squad spots fueling what the technical team sees as a mentally ready and determined group.
Uganda has never made it past the group stages at CHAN, but this time there’s a shift in tone. The Cranes will kick off their campaign against Algeria at Namboole.
