The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Wednesday marked a pivotal moment for women’s football, unveiling a stunning new trophy for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The ceremony, held at the Hotel Casablanca, celebrated the sport’s burgeoning growth and aspirations across the continent.
The new WAFCON trophy, glowing in gold, was presented as a powerful symbol of ambition and triumph. Legends of African Women’s Football, including Amanda Dlamini, Ajara Njoya, and Lamia Boumehdi, were present, underscoring the journey and progress of the sport.
“When I started, we played to exist. Today, young people play to win. This trophy is the symbol of this transition,” remarked Amanda Dlamini, former Banyana Banyana captain. Cameroonian striker Ajara Njoya echoed this sentiment, noting the positive shift in attitudes: “Today, parents are pushing their daughters to play football.”
The trophy’s modern design, blending simplicity with power, features curves that represent collective momentum and gold accents signifying excellence.
Lamia Boumehdi, trailblazing coach of TP Mazembe, called it “not just a cup… a symbol. A recognition.”
TotalEnergies, the title sponsor, reaffirmed its commitment to the sport.
Abdesslam Rhnimi, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Marketing Morocco, stated, “At TotalEnergies, we believe in the transformative power of Women’s Football. We want to support this momentum.”
This unveiling follows the conclusion of the first round of qualifiers for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026, with teams like Algeria and Mali advancing.
