Former Express Vice Captain Dauson Mafumu Joins Lugazi

Lugazi have officially confirmed the signing of defender Dauson Mafumu from Express on a two-year deal, making him their first addition of the July-September transfer window.

The defender arrives with solid Uganda Premier League experience, having spent the last three seasons at Express.

Known for his versatility, Mafumu can slot in at left back, center back, or even central midfield, giving the coaching team flexible options as they prepare for the new campaign.

“I feel excited because I believe Lugazi is the right place for developing my career,” Mafumu said after putting pen to paper. “The club has a strong vision, and I feel like I can grow here as a player and help the team achieve great things.”

Mafumu also highlighted his strengths on both ends of the pitch, describing himself as “strong in attack and defense” and someone who can deliver accurate crosses, make key interceptions, and support quick transitions.

His football journey began at Makindye Soccer Academy, where he spent over a decade honing his skills before moving to the Express Junior Team in 2018. During two seasons in the FUFA Juniors League, he netted nine goals—a notable return for a defensive player.

Promoted to the Red Eagles senior team in 2020, Mafumu steadily grew into a leadership role, becoming vice captain in 2023.

Alongside club football, he played a crucial role for Kibuli SS during their title-winning campaign at the 2022 FEASSSA Games in Arusha, Tanzania.

Lugazi welcomed their new man in a statement, describing him as a “pillar of both discipline and skill” and wished him success at the club.
