Bayern Munich’s young star, Jamal Musiala, faces a lengthy recovery after sustaining a broken leg and dislocated ankle during Saturday’s Club World Cup defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
The severe injury occurred in the first half when PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma collided with the 22-year-old midfielder.
Musiala, who had been in stellar form, was immediately stretchered off and has since flown back to Munich for surgery.
“This serious injury and the long absence are a real shock for Jamal and all of us. This hits FC Bayern hard,” said Bayern sporting director Max Eberl, emphasizing Musiala’s crucial role in the team.
The incident sparked concern among players. While Donnarumma expressed his well wishes on social media, Bayern captain Manuel Neuer criticized the PSG keeper’s initial lack of immediate concern at the scene.
