Uganda Cranes forward John Paul Dembe was the standout performer on Sunday, July 6, scoring both goals in BK Häcken’s 2-0 win over Elfsborg in the Swedish top flight.
Despite picking up a yellow card in the 14th minute, the 20-year-old remained composed and opened the scoring in the 33rd minute. He later sealed the win with a stoppage-time goal, securing all three points for Häcken.
This was only Dembe’s second full 90-minute appearance in the league this season, having struggled for regular minutes. But his brilliant performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
Speaking to the club’s media after the game, Dembe said,
“I’m most proud of the second goal. I thought it was a nice goal, and it was awesome to celebrate in front of our supporters.”
He added,
“The goal now is to keep working hard and contribute more goals going forward.”
Häcken now turns its attention to the UEFA Europa League qualifiers, where they’ll face FC Spartak Trnava in Slovakia on Thursday.
“We go home, recover, and then prepare for next week. We need to be ready,” Dembe said.
