The Namuwongo Blazers avoided a potential four-game skid with a commanding 74–62 victory over the JKL Dolphins on Sunday afternoon at the YMCA court, returning to form after a shaky run in the 2025 National Basketball League (NBL) season.
Coming into the matchup, the Blazers had dropped three straight games, against UCU Canons, Kampala Rockets, and Sommet, raising questions about their early-season momentum.
But on Sunday, they reasserted themselves as contenders, delivering a balanced performance on both ends of the floor.
Although both teams split the quarters evenly, it was Namuwongo’s dominance in the first and third periods that defined the outcome.
The Blazers raced out to an early lead in the opening quarter and returned from halftime with renewed energy, stretching the margin to a level the Dolphins couldn’t claw back from.
JKL did respond in the second and fourth quarters, but their efforts were offset by the damage already done.
Guard Tonny Drileba was instrumental in the win, putting up a double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 assists.
His leadership on the floor, court vision, and rebounding presence were key in keeping the Blazers composed during critical stretches of the game.
With this result, the Blazers not only halted their losing streak but also regained some much-needed rhythm as the regular season intensifies.
For the Dolphins, it’s back to the drawing board as they continue their search for consistency.
