Nigeria’s Super Falcons began their quest for a record-extending tenth Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title with a confident 3-0 victory over Tunisia in their Group B opener.
Asisat Oshoala put Nigeria ahead in the fourth minute, pouncing on a free-kick from Rinsola Babajide.
Babajide, who switched allegiance to Nigeria in 2023, then doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time with her first senior international goal, paying tribute to the late Liverpool forward Diogo Jota.
Chinwendu Ihezuo sealed the win late in the second half, converting a cross from Ashleigh Plumptre.
The dominant win puts Nigeria atop Group B.
They will face Botswana on Thursday, while Tunisia will play Algeria.
This victory marks a strong start to “Mission X” for the Super Falcons, as they aim to reclaim the WAFCON trophy.
