Brazil national team coach Carlo Ancelotti has been sentenced to one year in prison for tax fraud.
The verdict, delivered today in a Spanish court, relates to offenses committed during his initial time as Real Madrid manager in 2014.
Ancelotti was found guilty of defrauding the public treasury concerning his image rights.
In addition to the prison sentence, he was also hit with a €386,361 fine.
While Ancelotti claimed he was simply following club instructions and was acquitted of charges for 2015, the court’s decision stands.
This ruling casts immediate doubt on Ancelotti’s new role with the Brazilian national team.
The football community now awaits further details regarding the sentence’s execution and any potential appeals.
