Uganda’s national beach soccer team, the Sand Cranes, have learned their group opponents for the inaugural CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship, set to kick off from 16th to 20th July 2025 at Pirates Beach in Mombasa, Kenya.
The Sand Cranes have been placed in Group A alongside Tanzania and Seychelles.
Hosts Kenya lead Group B, which also includes Malawi, Burundi, and Zanzibar.
Uganda will begin their campaign on the second day of the tournament, 17th July, with a key fixture against Tanzania at 4:30 PM.
They’ll return to the sand on 18th July at 1:30 PM to take on Seychelles in their final group match. Tanzania will have opened the championship on 16th July against Seychelles.
The draws and match schedule were confirmed by CECAFA Executive Director Auka Gecheo.
This marks the first-ever CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship, offering the Sand Cranes a shot at making history in the regional showpiece.
The team has been in residential training ahead of the tournament, hoping to translate that preparation into strong performances in Mombasa.
