FUFA President Moses Magogo has called on Ugandans to rally behind the Uganda Cranes as they gear up for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which Uganda is co-hosting with Kenya and Tanzania.
Speaking after observing Wednesday’s training session at Luzira Prisons Grounds, Magogo praised the team’s energy and discipline, saying preparations were well on course.
“I am excited to see the coaches’ efforts and the players’ commitment,” he said. “The level of energy and attention to detail is impressive. I want to assure Ugandans that our preparations are progressing well.”
Magogo also weighed in on the recent squad trimming, which saw the initial 41-man list cut to 29.
Notable omissions included Paul Mucureezi, Milton Karisa, and Ronald Ssekiganda.
Magogo urged the public to trust the technical team’s decisions and avoid unnecessary speculation.
“Team selection is a technical process,” he emphasized.
“Every coach wants to win and every player has an equal opportunity to prove themselves. Let us trust the technical team to make decisions that will bring out the best in our national team.”
He noted that many fans may not be aware of behind-the-scenes challenges like injuries or psychological hurdles affecting players.
“Even as someone who has observed training today, I’ve gained new insights. The players may be dealing with things that aren’t immediately visible. That’s why we need to support them, not criticize selections,” Magogo said.
He concluded with a passionate appeal for national unity.
“These players are our brothers, our children. They deserve our love and encouragement. Let’s focus on cheering them on as they fight for our flag.”
