FUFA President Moses Magogo has paid glowing tribute to legendary goalkeeper Denis Onyango for lending his expertise to the Uganda Cranes’ goalkeeping unit ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
During a visit to the team’s training base at Luzira Prisons Grounds on Wednesday, Magogo expressed his appreciation for Onyango’s decision to join the technical team during his holiday, describing the move as a timely boost for the squad’s preparations.
“We want to thank Denis Onyango, the former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper, for joining our technical team during his stay here for holidays,” Magogo said.
“He has graciously agreed to share his experience and expertise with our goalkeepers. We’re confident that his guidance will benefit our players and they will learn valuable lessons from his wealth of knowledge.”
Onyango, widely regarded as one of Uganda’s greatest ever goalkeepers, earned over 70 caps for the national team and captained the Cranes during their historic 2017 AFCON campaign. His presence at the Luzira camp has already generated excitement among fans and players alike.
Currently, the Cranes have four goalkeepers in camp: Joel Mutakubwa (BUL), Denis Kiggundu (Vipers SC), Hannington Ssebwalunyo (NEC), and Crispus Kusiima (Kitara).
Onyango has been working closely with them to sharpen their skills and offer tips drawn from his illustrious career.
Uganda will kick off their CHAN campaign on August 4 at Namboole Stadium against Algeria, and Magogo believes support from legends like Onyango can help take the team to the next level.
