England midfielder Jordan Henderson, 35, is a free agent after his contract with Ajax expired.
The former Liverpool captain, who joined the Dutch club in January 2024, is now looking for his next move, with a strong focus on securing a place in England’s squad for next year’s World Cup.
Henderson made over 50 appearances for Ajax. His departure comes shortly after he returned to Merseyside to mourn the tragic death of former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota, who was killed in a car accident last week.
During his 12 years at Anfield, Henderson won numerous major trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League.
His brief stint with Saudi club Al-Ettifaq in 2024 ended quickly, leading to his move to Ajax.
Despite recent club changes, Henderson has remained in Thomas Tuchel’s England squads since January.
He has 84 caps for England, scoring three goals, and has featured in the last three World Cups. After being left out of the preliminary Euro 2024 squad, he returned to the national team earlier this year.
Henderson will now be seeking a club that helps him maintain top form as he targets a spot in what could be his fourth World Cup squad.
