Uganda’s senior national football team, the Cranes, have made a slight but significant rise in the latest FIFA rankings released this week.
The team has climbed one spot, moving from 89th to the 88th position globally.
This small jump comes as a positive sign for Uganda ahead of the August African Nations Championships (CHAN) set to be hosted on home soil, along with Kenya and Tanzania.
The rankings come after the team’s recent performances in the June international friendlies. Despite a heavy 3-0 loss to Cameroon in June, the Cranes bounced back to draw 1-1 with Gambia just days later.
The Cameroon defeat exposed defensive weaknesses, but the spirited response against Gambia showed the team’s resilience.
Rogers Mato found the net for Uganda in that match, giving fans something to cheer about.
Head coach Paul Put has over the time, emphasized the importance of consistency and building a strong squad foundation.
Ugandan football enthusiasts will be hoping this momentum carries forward, as the Cranes aim for a strong showing at the CHAN.
