Christian Horner’s two-decade tenure as Red Bull Racing CEO and Team Principal ended abruptly on Wednesday, with Laurent Mekies of Racing Bulls stepping in as his replacement.
Four-time World Champion Max Verstappen quickly issued a statement reflecting on their shared success.
“From my first race win, to four World Championships, we have shared incredible successes,” Verstappen posted.
“Winning memorable races and breaking countless records. Thank you for everything, Christian!”
Horner’s leadership saw Red Bull dominate Formula 1, with Verstappen’s remarkable run of 65 wins, 117 podiums, and four consecutive Drivers’ Championships (2021-2024) highlighting their achievements.
The managerial shake-up also sees Alan Permane promoted to Team Principal at Racing Bulls.
Both Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls will begin a new era at the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix (July 25-27).
