Ugandan footballers Rogers Mato and John Paul Dembe kicked off their European campaigns on a high as the UEFA club competitions got underway this week.
Rogers Mato came off the bench to score for North Macedonian side FK Vardar in a commanding 3-0 win over San Marino’s La Fiorita in the first round of the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers.
He was introduced in the second half with the game still goalless and made an immediate impact. The return leg is scheduled for next week.
In the UEFA Europa League qualifiers, John Paul Dembe started for Swedish club BK Häcken as they edged past Slovakia’s Spartak Trnava with a 1-0 win on Thursday night.
Häcken will take that narrow lead into the second leg.
