Seventeen-year-old Bashir Kisingo has been crowned Uganda’s top EA Sports FC 25 player after winning the Ultimate Matchup Edition of NBS Game Plus, held Saturday, July 12, 2025.
The thrilling two-hour showdown, broadcast live on NBS Sport and AfroMobile, saw Bashir beat some of the finest gamers in the country to claim a grand prize of UGX 4 million.
The Ultimate Matchup Edition brought together five elite gamers; Bashir, Kid Musa, Aksam, Ezra, and Joao Bin, who had all previously earned their spots through intense online qualifiers, including competitions on platforms like TikTok.
The competition was split into two phases: a round-robin league format followed by knockout semi-finals and a final.
In the league stage, each gamer faced the other once, with points awarded for wins and draws.
Former champion Kid Musa, who held the crown between 2021 and 2023, topped the group with three wins and one loss, his only defeat coming at the hands of Bashir.
Bashir followed in second with seven points from two wins, one draw, and one loss – a surprising 3-2 defeat to Joao Bin.
Aksam came third, while Ezra, who won last year’s tournament finished fourth. Joao Bin finished fifth despite his one victory against Bashir.
The top four advanced to the semi-finals, where Bashir dominated Aksam with a commanding 4-1 win, while Kid Musa edged out Ezra 1-0 to book a place in the final.
What followed was a pulsating finale between Bashir and Kid Musa. In a dramatic nine-goal thriller, Bashir held his nerve to edge out his rival 5-4, netting the winner in the dying minutes to spark wild celebrations from his supporters.
“This victory means everything to me,” said Bashir, speaking emotionally in his native Lusoga.
“I came from Jinja with a dream to be a top EA FC player, and today, I feel like I’m on the path to that dream. I want every young person out there to follow their passion, no matter where they come from.”
Bashir’s rise has been meteoric. After relocating from Jinja to Kampala just last year, he has worked his way up the gaming ranks.
While still based in Jinja, he came close to glory multiple times, twice falling in semi-finals and once in a final. His persistence paid off, and now he is the national champion.
Shafic Kagimu, CEO of Fique Game Solutions and lead sponsor of the Ultimate Matchup Edition, expressed pride in Bashir’s performance and gave reasons for his continued support of gamers.
“I am very happy for Bashir because it’s his first time appearing on national TV, and people have now realised how good he is,” Kagimu said.
“I want these gamers to earn from their talent. Gaming is a talent that not everyone has. We had initially promised 2 million, but we decided to up the game and raise it to 4 million.”
Danze Edwin, the host of NBS Game Plus, the only dedicated e-sports and virtual gaming show in East and Central Africa, reaffirmed the show’s mission to elevate gaming culture in Uganda.
“Our goal is to put e-sports on the map. Thanks to Fique Game Solutions and the growing community that’s pushing this space forward.”
All match stats, tables, and results were tracked and published in real-time via Kapeesa.com, offering fans and players a smooth and transparent tournament experience.
With this win, Bashir not only pockets a handsome prize but also earns the captaincy of Team Uganda, which is set to face off with Kenya’s top five gamers in an upcoming regional showdown.
Bashir plans to invest part of his winnings in gaming gear to further elevate his performance.
