Cyrus Muwanga has officially taken over as president of the Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA), vowing to extend the reach of the sport across the country during his four-year term.
Speaking at his swearing-in ceremony held at Cooper Chimney in Lugogo, Muwanga laid out a bold vision to boost visibility, grow grassroots participation, and align with Uganda’s new Sports Act, which calls for wider district-level representation across all disciplines.
“One of the things we want to embark on is taking the game all over the country, like the new sports act requires. We plan to have many tournaments that will help the sport be more visible,” Muwanga told the media.
He was joined at the ceremony by eight newly appointed executive committee members who will steer the UTTA through 2029. The team brings together a mix of administrative and technical minds:
- Cyrus Muwanga – President
- Joseph Rukundo – General Secretary
- Brian Ssenyonga – Treasurer
- Caroline Aziku – Vice President
- Ronald Serulyo – Technical Director
- Ameria Biira, Peterson Walujjo, Paul Mutambuze, and Davis Wassaja – Board Members
Outgoing president Robert Jjagwe, who received praise for his leadership, used his farewell speech to call on other federations to embrace term limits, citing their role in encouraging accountability and smooth transitions.
Uganda Olympic Committee President Dr. Donald Rukare applauded the peaceful handover and expressed confidence in Muwanga’s team.
He pledged continued support from the Olympic body as table tennis looks to deepen its roots across the country.
The ceremony drew top sports officials, players, and partners from across Uganda’s sporting landscape. Many expressed hope that Muwanga’s presidency would bring renewed energy and professionalism to the sport.
