Veteran midfielder Santi Cazorla, 40, has signed a new one-year contract with his boyhood club Real Oviedo, ahead of their return to La Liga.
Cazorla was instrumental in Oviedo’s promotion to the Spanish top flight for the first time in 24 years, scoring a decisive free-kick in the play-off semi-final and a penalty in the final.
Despite a past Achilles injury that doctors feared would prevent him from playing again, the former Arsenal and Spain international continues to defy expectations.
“Santi Cazorla, a symbol and emblem of Oviedo, proves that dreams…come true,” the club stated, praising his leadership and embodiment of their values.
Last season, he contributed five goals and five assists in 35 games.
