Despite a stinging 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup final, Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi has surprisingly called the loss “good” for the club.
The Parisians, who just clinched their first UEFA Champions League title, were outplayed by Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea at MetLife Stadium.
Al-Khelaifi expressed immense pride in what he called the “best season in the club’s history,” even with the final defeat.
He believes the loss will instill humility and fuel their drive for more trophies next season.
“This defeat is good for us, for next season. We have to be humble,” Al-Khelaifi stated, also congratulating Chelsea on their deserved victory.
PSG now looks to the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur on August 14.
However, head coach Luis Enrique could face a ban after a post-match incident involving Chelsea’s Joao Pedro.
