Arsenal are on the cusp of signing Sporting’s prolific striker Viktor Gyokeres in a deal worth €73.5 million (£63.5 million).
A full agreement is anticipated within the next 24 hours, with only minor details remaining to be resolved.
The Gunners aim to have the 27-year-old Sweden international join their pre-season tour in Asia this week.
Gyokeres has already agreed to a five-year contract. This transfer follows Arsenal’s shift in focus after hitting an impasse in their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko. Sporting Director Andrea Berta recently led negotiations in Lisbon.
Despite a recent disciplinary issue at Sporting for failing to report to pre-season training, Gyokeres’s impressive record of 54 goals in 52 games last season for Sporting, where he won two league titles, made him a prime target for Arsenal.
