The national lacrosse championship at the USSSA Ball Games II are officially underway, and Bombo Army Secondary School made an immediate statement of intent on Sunday with commanding wins in both the boys’ and girls’ categories.
In the girls’ opener, Nabisunsa Girls School showed their class with a convincing 14–4 win over Mt. St. Mary’s College Namagunga.
Bombo Army’s girls then followed up with their own display of dominance, crushing Kigezi High School 12–1 in a lopsided affair.
On the boys’ side, Bombo Army continued the school’s winning momentum with an 11–1 thrashing of Kigezi High School, putting them top of the standings after the opening round.
The final match of the day saw a thriller between host school St. Peter’s College Tororo and Empower International Academy. Despite a strong home crowd behind them, St. Peter’s fell just short, losing 13–11 in one of the most tightly contested games of the day.
A total of 9 schools—five girls’ teams and four boys’—are battling for this year’s national title, but even more is on the line.
The top-performing schools will earn the chance to represent Uganda at the FEASSA Games in Kakamega, Kenya this August, where lacrosse will feature as a demonstration sport.
