South African coach Rulani Mokwena has been appointed the new head coach of Algerian Ligue 1 champions, Mouloudia Club d’Alger (MC Alger).
The 38-year-old, known for his role in Mamelodi Sundowns’ 2016 CAF Champions League victory as assistant manager, makes his return to coaching after his recent departure from Morocco’s Wydad Athletic Club.
MC Alger, who clinched the league title last season, confirmed the appointment with a simple statement: “Rolani Mokwena is the new coach of the dean of the Algerian club. Mokwena, welcome to Mouloudia.”
Mokwena’s immediate focus will be preparing MC Alger for the CAF Champions League, set to begin in September, as the club aims for continental success.
