Burkina Faso head coach Issa Balboné has named a 25-man squad of entirely home-based players for the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN), as the Stallions gear up to face hosts Tanzania in the tournament opener on August 2 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The West Africans will be based in Tanzania for the group stage of the regional tournament co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Drawn in a competitive group with Algeria, South Africa, Uganda, and Niger, Burkina Faso are targeting a breakthrough performance.
Balboné’s squad includes a balanced mix of youth and experience, with players selected based on their consistency in the domestic league.
Four players come from AS Sonabel, the most from any single club, followed by key contributions from Majestic SC, ASFB, USFA, and Rahimo FC.
“Our objective is clear—we want to go as far as possible in this competition,” said Balboné. “The players selected have earned their spots with strong performances, and now we focus on final preparations.”
The squad features notable names like goalkeeper Sanou Ladji (AS Sonabel), midfielder Belem Enock (Majestic SC), and defender Barro Cédric (Rahimo FC), all expected to play key roles in the tournament.
Burkina Faso will rely on tactical discipline, defensive organization, and the trademark fighting spirit of Burkinabe football as they prepare to challenge some of the continent’s best local-based squads. The CHAN competition, which runs from August 2 to 30, serves as a crucial platform for players active in their home leagues to gain international exposure.
