Uganda’s preparations for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 are in full gear, and Ministry of Education and Sports Spokesperson, Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba says the country is ready to deliver.
Speaking at a media engagement held at the National Council of Sports headquarters in Lugogo, Dr. Mugimba, who chairs the Communications and Signage Committee for the CHAN/AFCON Local Organising Committee, said both Mandela National Stadium and the key training grounds had passed CAF’s final inspection.
“Inspectors were satisfied with the progress and quality. We’ve met the required standards,” he confirmed.
Dr. Mugimba also revealed plans for a nationwide fan mobilization campaign, saying the tournament goes far beyond sport.
“We want every Ugandan to feel part of this moment. CHAN 2024 is not just about football — it’s about showcasing who we are as a nation,” he said.
He called on the media to take an active role in building momentum across the country, promising that a national campaign theme would be unveiled soon.
The goal, he said, is to deepen public engagement and give Ugandans a sense of pride and ownership in the tournament.
With the tournament set to kick off on August 2, Dr. Mugimba said Uganda is prepared to host not just a competition, but a celebration of African talent, culture, and hospitality.
“This is our chance to show that Uganda can host world-class events. It’s our moment to shine,” he added.
