Kampala City Council’s Deputy Lord Mayor, Doreen Nyanjura, has called CHAN 2024 a once-in-a-generation opportunity.
Speaking to NBS Sport on Wednesday morning, she urged Ugandans to embrace CHAN 2024 as more than just a football event.
“Uganda is already celebrated for its great weather, delicious food, and the warmth of its people,” she said.
“But now is the time to shine in a new light. Let’s showcase our football talent, promote tourism gems like Murchison Falls and Sipi Falls, build valuable networks, and generate income through the services we offer,” she added.
Nyanjura emphasized that sectors beyond sport stand to benefit.
She pointed to local entrepreneurs, artists, and the hospitality industry as key players who could unlock new cross-border connections and business opportunities during the tournament.
On the tech front, Airtel Uganda’s Public Relations Manager David Birungi moved to ease concerns around digital infrastructure.
He guaranteed uninterrupted network service throughout the competition, saying, “We have reinforced our network infrastructure and there will be no connectivity issues during CHAN 2024.”
With infrastructure upgrades already underway and tourism drives picking up steam, Uganda is mobilizing every sector to deliver a world-class experience — and use CHAN 2024 as a platform to redefine its global image.
