Orlando Pirates have swiftly refuted claims of a R120 million (approximately £5M) bid from PSV Eindhoven for their key player, Relebohile Mofokeng.
From their pre-season camp in Spain, the Soweto giants issued a statement Wednesday, slamming the reports as “false and irresponsible.”
Speculation intensified after SoccerLaduma.com published details of the alleged offer for the Bafana Bafana international, who was pivotal in Pirates’ strong 2024/2025 season with 12 goals and 15 assists in 49 appearances.
Mofokeng has previously been linked with Barcelona, Rangers, and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
However, the club’s official statement clarified: “No such offer has been received… The claims made in the article are not only false but also irresponsible and damaging.”
Pirates criticized the publication for “sensationalism over truth,” calling the reports “an unnecessary distraction aimed at unsettling both the player and the Club at a critical juncture.”
The Buccaneers urged media outlets to “refrain from publishing unverified reports that seek to create instability for the sake of clicks.”
