With the countdown to the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships well underway, the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) has confirmed that the National Championships will be held on July 24 and 25 at Mandela National Stadium.
These two days of competition will play a decisive role in shaping the final squad for Tokyo, as the qualification window closes on August 28.
So far, 20 Ugandan athletes have already punched their tickets to the global showpiece—a record number that highlights the country’s growing stature in international athletics.
But for many others, this month’s national showdown could make or break their Tokyo dream.
UAF President Domenic Otucet says the event is open to both elite and rising athletes and will serve as the final opportunity to rack up valuable ranking points.
“We are encouraging all elite and upcoming athletes to use this event not only to crown their season but also to boost their chances of qualifying by earning more points,” Otucet said.
The two-day meet also marks the official finale of Uganda’s domestic athletics calendar and will feature competition across sprints, distance events, jumps, and throws.
