Uganda has taken a major step in its preparations for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 by finalising a core group of volunteers set to support the tournament’s operations on home soil.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) confirmed that 1,222 applicants have progressed to the next phase of the national volunteer programme, which will see them undergo specialised training ahead of the tournament’s kickoff on 2 August 2025.
This development follows a nationwide call for volunteers that drew 1,884 applications between 14 and 22 June.
The response reflects strong public enthusiasm for CHAN 2024, which Uganda will co-host alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
The selected volunteers, all aged 18 and above, will begin training on 25 July.
Sessions will be led by experts from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), focusing on venue operations, service excellence, hospitality, and fan support.
Once fully trained, volunteers will be deployed to Uganda’s CHAN venues in roles spanning logistics, protocol, media coordination, and more.
LOC officials believe the commitment and energy of these volunteers will be key to ensuring a smooth and welcoming tournament environment for teams and fans alike.
