Deputy RCC: “Let’s Earn from CHAN, Not Ruin It”

With just two weeks to the kickoff of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), Rubaga Division is laying the groundwork for both hospitality and order as Uganda prepares to co-host the tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania.

Rubaga Deputy RCC Henry Kitambula says the division is “ready to make money” from the event, which will bring in teams, fans, and media from across the continent.

He noted that some teams will be holding training sessions at Rubaga-based facilities like Wankulukuku and Kadiba Stadium, giving locals a golden chance to profit from services like hotels, accommodation, catering, and transport.

“As Rubaga Division, we are optimistic and ready to make money from the CHAN tournament,” Kitambula said. “We want our people to benefit by offering key services to guests. It’s our time to shine.”

But alongside the economic opportunity, Kitambula also sent a clear message to football fans: behave.

He warned supporters to stay calm during matches, regardless of outcomes, and condemned any acts of indiscipline, especially violence or bottle-throwing in stadiums.

“That behavior not only causes penalties for your team but also damages Uganda’s reputation. Let’s be humble, respectful, and welcoming.”

With CHAN expected to boost both football and tourism, Rubaga hopes to position itself as a model of community-driven support and profit during the tournament.
