Star striker Serhou Guirassy made a surprise visit to the Guinea training camp in Kindia on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
This inspiring stop comes just days before the team’s departure for Morocco to finalize preparations for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.
The Borussia Dortmund forward, fresh off a spectacular 44-goal season, paused his humanitarian efforts in his native country to encourage the CHAN-bound players. “Stay focused and give everything on the pitch,” Guirassy urged. “This is a huge chance to show what Guinea is made of. Fight with pride and make the nation proud.”
The Guinean Football Federation (FGF) warmly welcomed Guirassy. Vice-President Mamadou Barry expressed deep appreciation for the “powerful gesture” that means “a lot to the players and the federation.”
Shortly after Guirassy’s visit, the Syli Local team, led by head coach Souleymane Camara, departed for a six-day training camp in Morocco.
Their preparations will continue in Douala, Cameroon, with closed-door matches against Burkina Faso on July 24 and the Central African Republic on July 28.
Drawn into a tough Group C alongside Algeria, Uganda, South Africa, and Niger, Guinea — semi-finalists in 2016 and 2020 — is aiming for a historic breakthrough at CHAN 2024.
The tournament runs from August 2 to August 30, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
