With less than two weeks to go, the CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba has declared East Africa ready to host the historic 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
“We are now just two weeks away from writing a new chapter in African football,” Mosengo-Omba said.
“The TotalEnergies CAF CHAN 2024 is more than a tournament—it’s a powerful statement of African excellence, unity, and belief in local talent. East Africa is ready to welcome the continent.”
This year’s CHAN will be the first major CAF competition to be co-hosted by three countries—Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. The tournament runs from August 2 to 30, with matches taking place in Dar es Salaam, Kampala, and Nairobi.
CAF says the final stages of preparation are in full gear across the region. Local organising committees are working “around the clock” to fine-tune stadiums, finalise logistics, and roll out fan engagement activities. Ticket sales and promotional campaigns are expected to launch shortly.
The opening match will be held at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam. Kampala will host the third-place playoff, while Nairobi will host the final.
The final draw has already been conducted, with 19 teams—among them defending champions Senegal—placed into groups.
CAF expects every match to showcase national pride, drama, and emerging stars from local leagues.
