The 2025 USSSA Ball Games II wrapped up in Tororo with key figures applauding the role of school sports in shaping young talent and promoting discipline.
Commissioner for Physical Education and Sports, Rev. Can. Dr. Duncans Mugumya, emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that all learners benefit from sports.
“We are happy to see you develop new talents. We have done our level best to ensure that every learner gets involved in sports,” he said during the closing ceremony at King George Stadium.
Representing USSSA President Justus Mugisha, 3rd Vice President Harriet Margaret Apolot addressed concerns about player eligibility.
“Discipline has been good despite a few cases that were well handled by the disciplinary committee. We are working so hard to eliminate non bonafide players so that we can only have genuine players,” she said.
St. Peter’s College Tororo head teacher Luke Emuron, whose school hosted the event, expressed gratitude.
“We are privileged to have hosted this prestigious event. We thank all the sponsors who made it possible,” he noted.
The week-long championship, which featured a record 18 disciplines, ran from July 10 to 18 and concluded with an awards ceremony attended by Assistant RDC Aida Kageni, representing Sports Minister Hon. Peter Ogwang.
